From Library Journal
Zoo visits are the epitome of family activities; indeed, zoo admissions figures annually outnumber those of most professional sports. This is an enthusiastic and useful guide to zoos, animal and marine parks, and representative wildlife refuges in the United States and Canada (but not Mexico, as the title implies). Each institution is given a brief description, and approximate admissions fees and suggested visiting hours are listed. According to the guide, there is an elephant in Anchorage that paints pictures (which are available for sale), Dollywood has a good butterfly exhibit, and at Gatorland you can not only see the beasts in the flesh but also eat their flesh in the form of smoked ribs. This inexpensive guidebook and directory should find a ready audience in most public libraries.
